The local fishing continues to impress, especially the Tongaririo river at the moment
Good numbers of solid fresh fish came into the system on that last rain at the weekend and most anglers were having a ball on most methods.
we have been seeing some spasmodic mayfly hatches on the warmer balmy evenings, as we head towards November we should expect to see this increase and fish should be starting to look up a lot more, small CDC emergers and Adams in 16# should do the trick when they are going hard on top , try a small skinny unweighted PTN again around 16# under the dry if they are not totally committing to the dry.
Great time of year now as you can confidently fish a lot lighter with light nymphing outfit or dry dropper in the shallower water and sight fishing along the edges you should expect to see the odd brown along the way from now really.
Time to think about toning down the winter terminal rig and start to think about tapered leaders, finer tippet, smaller flies etc.

The lake fishing has been slowly improving as the fly life starts to increase so the fish become more active once the temps start to rise.
Have been fishing Rotoaira recently and have been doing well in the deeper water with a Di3 pulling lures on a slow retrieve some very good quality fish have been showing up already.
The TT was also on fire a few days ago just as the levels were residing we had some nice fresh fish pulsing through all on the Euro rig and all sighted fishing on small copper beaded PTN's .
We can expect to find a lot more recovering fish in the system now and all eager to replenish lost condition and put on weight as fast they can, we can also expect more runs of fresh fish for a good few weeks yet, all in all it leads to good numbers throughout the length of the river and with the prospect of that dry fly fishing its looking really good .
Forecast is looking fairly settled for the coming few days, a few dumps of rain here and there but nothing that is going to affect us too much.
