The Tongariro River has received a lot of rain in the past 24 hours, and the river level has reflected that. Yesterday, the river was around 29 Cubic feet; today, it has increased to over 200. Although this is bad news for the short-term fishing on the river, it may lead to a strong run of rainbows and browns into the river, which should be catchable over the next few weeks. However many of the older post spawn rainbows that would have stayed in the river over the summer may be flushed down to the lake from this rain.
While we wait for the river levels to drop, this is an excellent opportunity to restock some of your flies for the upcoming summer. Come in and let us show you some of the top flies. Browse our fly-tying material selection!
