Monday 17th of July 2023

It's a stunning sunny day in Turangi with a light breeze passing through town. We received some rain over night but once again it was not enough to make any significant change in river flow, with the Tongariro sitting at 26.4m3/sec. Euro nymphing and wet lining seem to be the most productive methods of late with the Always Borderline Fly Range doing the damage for those euro nymphing. We have found That silver beaded options such as the Borderline, Gremlin and Dave's Aunty have been fishing very well this past week.

Shop Regular Sam took full advantage of the long weekend (not that he works much anyway) and got his new Sage R8 9'0" 8wt out for a swing with an olive rabbit fly and nailed a beautiful coloured jack that was just north of the 7.5lb mark! Well done Sam.

We had a very busy weekend in the shop and are in the process of restoking our shelves. Unfortunately, it looks as though there's no serious rain in the foreseeable future but not all is lost as fish continue to make their way up the rivers and with a change in tactic from the usual bomb, globug and giant indicator nymphing to smaller indicators and natural flies there is still some great fishing to be had.
