Tongariro River Flow: 26.5m3/sec

Weather: Overcast with overnight rain on the forecast 🌧

The river conditions are still low and clear. While trying not to sound like a broken record, this means you'll have to cover a bit more water to find the fish as well as use lighter tippets and more natural flies to get them to eat. Anglers have been having mixed reports as always, however within my personal fishing lately I can say there are plenty of fish around to be caught. The forecast for the coming week is looking more promising with the following few days scheduled for rain. This is a good sign as there are certainly plenty more fish yet to run, so things could kick off at any minute!

The other rivers heading back to Taupo including the Tauranga- Taupo and Hinemaiaia have had very positive reports from our shop staff the last few days. With big pods of fish throughout them and fresh running fish holding in the lower sections as well. The next few weeks are looking to be like some great winter fishing! If you're down in Turangi over the following months make sure to drop into the shop and we can give you all the local intel you may need :)

For anyone wanting to hone their fishing skills on some fresh run winter Tongariro rainbows be sure to inquire about our highly skilled shop fly fishing guides.
