Saturday 16th December 2023

After a warm and sunny Friday afternoon we have been greeted with an overcast Saturday morning, but the high cloud is expected to burn off later this afternoon. The Westerly breeze has certainly dropped off compared to earlier in the week, but it is hanging in there and keeping temperatures mild for the time being. The Tongariro is flowing at 24.2m3/sec and has cleared up after being relatively coloured over the last week.

Lighter indicator rigs and small nymphs under a dry fly have continued to be the preferred techniques in the river while wet lining has continued to produce some nice fresh fish. The jigging and trolling for the lake anglers has been red hot with good numbers of fat fish finding their way to the net and we expect to see more of the same as the wind continues to drop and the lake conditions improve.

The shop is bursting with stock leading into the Christmas break! The all new Lamson Liquid S reel has touched down with a sleek new design on what has been a crowd favourite for years now. This reel still incorporates the same faithful drag system and bullet proof die cast aluminum frame that many have come to love but with the improved drag knob, knew look and topped off with the daybreak blue finish this reel truly is next level.

Another new product is the Simms Flyweight Vest Pack. This is perfect for the angler who plans on covering some miles and is looking to pack lightly while still having room for a jacket, lunch, and all the fly boxes you could want.

Turangi is already starting to boogie as people have started entering town to make the most of an early Christmas knock off. We are excited to see everyone across the Christmas and New Year period making the most of all the great angling opportunities on hand at the moment.
