Weather: Overcast and drizzly with highs of 13°C
Tongariro River Flow: With a recreational release today, the river is currently at 43 cucmecs (m3/sec).
Genesis info:
Flows of 30 cubic metres per second for 6 hours will be released from Poutū Intake into the Tongariro River between 9am and 3pm today Saturday 26th April.
Flows of 30 cubic meters per second for 8 hours will be released from Rangipō Dam between 8am and 4pm on Sunday 27th April. (This release will heighten the flow but will still make the Tongariro fishable)
Wetlining is advised this weekend with light to unweighted woolly buggers and streamers, dark or brightly coloured to contrast against the coloured water and swinging into the edges where fish will move into lighter flows. If nymphing, use big bright beads or dark big-profiled buggy nymphs to again make them visible to the fish.
Reports from those this morning who headed out nymphing had great success on the usual favourites of the Gummers Carpet Caddis and Category 3 101 Stonefly patterns!
Wally and I headed up the Hinemaiaia again earlier in the week to continue our euro nymphing journey and were pleased to get into some fresh and coloured up fish following the increase in flow on Easter Monday.
Yesterday Sarah and I hit Rotoaira lake for some fun in the sun and had a great day both nymphing and stripping woolly buggers on various sinking lines.
Both the nymphing and streamer fishing provided results, with natural yet big profiled leggy nymphs being a hot favourite for the day. We have a great selection of lake flies and lake lines, with variations of sinking tips, intermediate sinkers and full sinking lines in store. I used the Sage R8 #6 9ft 6inch rod to help gain a bit of length on my sitting-down cast and for controlled contact with my flies and it worked a dream!
Come see us in store to get a quality line spooled onto your reel, to fish the depths of your choice to get into those lake fish.
I promised a few of you I would let you know when our red pheasant tails were back in store and we have had a full colour re-load on the shelves! So pop in for our quality pheasant tails for home-tying, in a variety of colours.
Keep enjoying the fishing guys and girls!
