Tongariro River Flow: 28.6m3/sec

Weather: Cloudy ⛅

The Tongariro is back down to a nice 28 cu and running clear again some great reports from the wetliners yesterday from down lower, good numbers of fresh fish around that came up on those higher flows, smaller olive and black lures as the river cleared was the order of the day.

Middle and higher reaches also did well but mainly to the nymphers who picked up a mixture of fresh and recovering fish but bigger numbers, most methods still working, the traditional indicator through the deeper pools and also now fishing up the edges in the shallower riffles and tail outs with tiny indicator, longer and lighter leaders and smaller flies in the #16 and #14 size range nice and skinny without too much bling.

Dry dropper with a small Stimmie is also a really fun way to fish at this time of year as you can ascertain as to whether you might to get a few fish looking up and taking interest in the dry as soon as this happens I am more than happy just to get rid of the nymph and fish Mayfly and Caddis dries mainly in the emerger stage during the day.

I would really be on the lookout now for those Browns that start to sneak up this time of year especially the next few days after the high flows we just had.

Evening rise is now becoming more evident but still quite late happening. short lived but sweet. This will happen earlier and last longer as we head into November. A great time of year to spend a couple of hours in the evening.

The lakes are now starting to fire up as the invertebrate's are becoming more active, some cracking quality fish amongst the recovering fish now.

Small pullers on sinks and now a lot of success on the nymph, buzzers and wets on floaters and inta tips.

Please note the shop will be open normal hours over the long weekend.

Swing by and say hello, love to see you all

Best regards and tight lines, Team Sporting Life
