It's a superb day to be out on the water in spite of the overcast conditions and going by the number of customers coming in to restock flies and tippet there's many anglers on the rivers and lakes today!
With the rivers getting lower and clearer by the day since the last flood the fishing has slowed down and become a challenge for anglers. Those who have been getting good numbers are using natural fly patterns sizes 10 down to a 16 and using the right weight can be crucial with finicky trout wanting a dead drift. Using one weight in a slow-moving pool doesn't always translate to a body of fast shallow water, so make sure you have a selection of flies in various sizes/weights to use in the appropriate scenarios.
For those who are visiting NZ and planning to do some fishing in the Taupo region you need to purchase a Taupo Fishing Licence which you can do following the link: Buy a Taupō fishing licence online (doc.govt.nz)
Or alternatively you can purchase one from the shop.
