We have had a good drop of rain over the last day or so (100mm in the catchment) so the Tongariro River has had a flush overnight with it coming up to 120 cubic meters. Present flow is high thirties with plenty of colour so is very fishable at present. Anglers coming in the shop this morning are reporting a few fish being caught but not going gangbusters yet. Heavy rain is forecast late Monday, Tuesday so get out there over the next couple of days. Swinging flies today is going to be productive, BIG Rabbits or Buggers are our recommendations. Nymphing tomorrow should fire up with the water clarity improving, Glo Bugs and Green Caddis fished deep will be productive.
TT is going to be a day or two away from firing up as it got to 1.9 on the gauge.(Look for .6 or less on the gauge). Once it drops it will be well worth paying a visit as it has been fishing off the charts this season. Same flies as the Tongariro, Glo Bugs while it is clearing, small nymphs once it has. We have a great range of the Category Three Nymphs in store at present.
