The first proper frost of the year has shown itself with a heavy covering of ice on the windscreen this morning! The fishing is starting to kick into gear now with the rips really starting to fire and a good smattering of chrome fish making their way up the rivers. The smaller rivers have had some great catches coming out of them, not in huge numbers but some fantastic fish so with the weather this weekend shaping up to be great it will be well worth a trip over. Nymphing on the Tongariro and TT with small natural patterns has been successful with globugs picking fish up early morning on the Tongariro in particular.
We are keeping a close eye on the forecast and hoping that some good consistent rain isn't too far away, with the Tongariro continuing to hover around the 20 cumec mark. Fishing with lighter nymphs will make a difference in the shallower runs and prevent your hooks getting fouled up with the growth that has covered the bottom in the past few months.
The team at Sporting Life would like to wish our man Neil a very happy birthday! No doubt he will be out on the river chasing chrome like he did yesterday and came up with some beautiful examples.
We have had a restock of the Yeti Rambler Mugs with a lockable lid to avoid any accidental spillage which proved very popular last winter! Most of us here at Sporting Life own multiple Yeti products as they are a fantastic product and your coffee is kept warms for hours which is a lifesaver on those rainy winter days. Check them out in the link below!
