We monitor the evolving weather developments as they take a turn for the worse by Monday night and into Tuesday morning. We will see how it will all unfold and keep you updated as I know many have been asking.
Had an amazing time (Tuesday/Wednesday) on the Tongariro, Tauranga-Taupo, and Hinemaiaia rivers, and the mouth of the latter, and had a fantastic time employing various winter fishing techniques that yielded great results. If you thought the smaller rivers were off-limits due to the rain and sediment (especially on Tuesday), think again. The murky waters were concealing some fresh and fighting-fit rainbows, a majority of which were smaller hens, but the odd large jack was lurking.
I caught up with good mates Lachlan & Daryl riverside, who have been long overdue a trip. Unfortunately, Lachlan faced some technical issues but thanks to his home-tied intruders and Trout Spey HD doubled-handed rod he was soon celebrating an epic catch.
The Category 3 Globugs are proving effective, especially in the last few days, while the Gummer's Carpet Caddis in pink or black 12s & 14s are a proven staple on any given day.
