Tongariro River Flow: 25.4m3/sec Weather: Mostly Sunny ⛅

A warm partially sunny day for Turangi and those pesky lace moths have either given the fly fisher the challenge they seek or have left them scratching their heads in frustration 😣 But don't give up! Keep multiple patterns in varying sizes and switch up the materials used to tie your lace moth; we like to use natural feather material such as CDC with a small hot spot so we can see the fly on the water without the use of binoculars 😉 Synthetic mesh material can be very effective and is another popular choice for the creative fly tyer, check out Sparkle Organza Wing via the website.
The jigging is still red hot for the boat anglers while the Delta continues to keep fly fishers happy for a chill day in the sunshine and opportunity to land some big fish. Jigging 35-45m has been great for those solely seeking quality over quantity.
Ray Ooi has been soaking up the sun and lake views whilst fishing the many river mouths this summer. The other day he was feeling the cold as the sunshine departed and the rain set in making it short day on the water! Lucky for him the fish were playing ball. Great stuff.
Rosie has been hitting the water any chance she can get, making the most of her first summer on the fly rod and one of her favourite methods is targeting trout on the smelt via lake edge. Her lines of choice are the RIO Fathom sink 5 for deeper spots, and in shallower areas she uses an intermediate sinking line using an instore Pat Swift smelt pattern.
