Tuesday 20th December 2022

After a small taste of sunshine yesterday, the rain has returned to the central plateau. The Tongariro dropped in flow over night and is currently holding at 51.3m3/sec and looking rather fishy with the usual green colour expected with this flow, ideal conditions for both wet lining and indicator nymphing. And with more reports of brown trout encounters from our customers why not get out there and give it a good nudge.

Neil made the most of the sunshine yesterday hitting the lake edge and was rewarded a few silver rainbows for his efforts. The Rio Aqualux Intermediate Fly Line with an Umpqua Sili Smelt attached to the business end did the damage. It is encouraging to see these fish starting to put on condition in time for everyone's Christmas break as I'm sure a couple smoked trout won't go a miss around the grazing table.

Looks like we are due for more of the same over the next couple days as far as the forecast is concerned but it looks like it is going to be stunning from Friday onwards leading up to Christmas, fingers crossed that it carries through into the new year!
