Tuesday 8th Of April

Tongariro River Flow: 23.2(m3/sec)

Weather: A few showers, turning to rain for a time about midday, followed by fine spells. Fresh north-westerlies, easing this evening.

The river is in excellent condition right now, the perfect colour and level. We are still getting occasional good downpours which is keeping the river fresh. Lots of new fish are moving through. On Sunday I was noticing a lot of very fresh smaller fish (around the 1.5-2IB mark) were about. Amongst them were some much larger fish.

We aren't expecting much more rain, until the 17th of April. So hopefully the rain that has come will carry us through until then, unless things change.

The Tauranga-Taupo is in equally good condition and slightly coloured. Reports are of some great fishing all through the river. With lots of new fresh rainbows and browns.

We have been getting lots of success on pink bead flies. Like the Gummers Carpet Caddis PTB, in size 12.

A screenshot of Gary with a very decent fresh run rainbow caught one morning before work, just below the bridge when the river was steadily dropping from the recent rain.

We have all been busy in store and focusing on the ordering in preparation for the winter. We have just received in some thermals and fleece kits. Perfect for under the waders.

Our Rio lines are also fully stocked, with our new ideal for winter lines. Like the Rio Gold Max, and the Rio Indicator line. We have also topped up on shooting heads.

As the temperature cools, and more rain comes, we can expect to see some excellent fishing opportunities. It's a perfect time to come up for a fish. If you need a guide, now is the time to get your bookings in- to make sure you can secure a place with our busy guides.

Let us know how you get on everyone. Send us your photos and reports.

Tight Lines,

The Sporting life crew.
