Wednesday 16th April

Tongariro River Flow: 21.4(m3/sec)

Weather: Cloudy, with a few spots of rain, clearing this afternoon. Fresh southeasterlies.

Josh and Rosie were out on the Tongariro yesterday. With some stunning fish landed, alongside a few more fun sized fish- but in excellent condition. They were catching them on size #16 Pheasant tails, and Stoneflies. In the evening, they were swinging large wet flies, bringing a few more to the net.

The smaller nymphs in sizes 16 or under are still working their magic. A recent customer who I sold a few Red Flash Back Pheasant Tails #12 by Category3 flies, was saying most of his fish have been going for those, over much else (we have since topped up with more).

There is a lot of rain coming in, over the next few days. Maybe even more than our last weather system that came through. Hopefully giving the systems, a good flush and bring even more fish in the tributaries.

As Gary said in the previous video, there are still plenty of browns in the river, in amongst some cracking rainbows that are well conditioned, fresh from the lake.

Reports from the river mouths are heating up. Tim was at the Delta recently and said everyone was having a fair amount of luck retrieving booby flies or large smelt patterns. Hooking into some good fish for the smoker.

Jon was also on the big lake recently, and didn't have a whole lot of luck harling or jigging, with has been pretty on theme when talking to most who have been giving it a go.

Hopefully the good river fishing carries us through in the lead up to the winter spawning runs. Remember now is a good time to get your bookings in for guiding. So come see us in store or give us an email and we will see what we can do.

Come have a chat in store or give us a call about the conditions over the next few days, and let's hope for fresh run. Bring on Cyclone Tam.

Tight Lines everyone,
