Tongariro River Flow: 26.7m3/sec

Weather: Overcast 🌥

We are still waiting in anticipation for the coming lot of rain predicted for the weekend and early next week. However, reports on the lower river are still good with many wetliners doing well fishing in the morning, catching some great condition fish on a range of rabbit and bugger flies.

My recent exploits have taken me to a few different rivers, with a common theme of low and clear conditions. While there are plenty of fish around, a walk to lesser pressured areas can often prove successful. Most fish have been caught on a natural caddis or hair and copper nymph however I find a small orange beaded nymph like the Always Borderline Sunny Side Up in a size #10 or #12 works well on fish that aren't so willing to feed.

The Sporting Life guides have been hard at work lately getting into plenty of fish. For those willing to invest in improving their fishing skills or simply to go out for a great time on the river, get in touch as winter dates are filling up quick!

Tight lines!
