Description
The Adams trout fly is a popular dry fly pattern devised in 1922 by American, Len Halliday. Usually tied on size 14 to 18 hooks. it represents an adult mayfly.
The Parachute Adams is very popular as it floats in the water film and is representative of a mayfly either laying eggs or emerging as an adult. It is also more easily visible to trout than the higher floating form. Some such as the Adams irresistible have a heavier body. It is important to observe what is around and try and match size and colour of the mayflies where possible.
Used widely throughout New Zealand and generally fished at dusk when there are mayflies around on the water. It is a great pattern for the South Island high country.
